Director of Health Policy and Advocacy (Washington, DC) | Nemours | Washington, DC
Nemours Health and Prevention Services (NHPS), based in Newark,
Delaware, works with families and community partners to help children
grow up healthy. Our goal is to drive long-term changes in policies and
practices promoting child health and leverage community strengths and
resources to have the greatest impact on the most children.
Nemours is one of the nation's largest health systems dedicated to the
pursuit of excellence in children's health and health care. Employing
over 4,000 professional, we have operations reaching across four states
(DE, PA, NJ and FL).
Excellent opportunity for an experienced professional to start-up and
manage our new office of Health Policy and Advocacy in Washington, DC.
The office will serve as the coordinating vehicle for the enterprise to
contribute to the national policy agenda for child health, and support
policy changes at the state levels that improve children's health.
Reporting to the NHPS Senior VP, specific responsibilities include:
- Develop a proactive health policy agenda across Nemours that includes
both state/local and national advocacy efforts.
- Manage $800,000 budget.
- Provide leadership and direction to the advocacy work and manage small
staff of policy and legislative analysts.
- Prepare annual strategic plan that will be part of Nemours' five-year
business plan.
- Build and support the Office of Health Policy and Advocacy, including
locating office space either within Nemours offices in Delaware or in
Washington, D.C. and hire staff.
- Launch an advocacy campaign.
- Develop and implement work plans.
- Integrate targeted efforts across three advocacy platforms: children's
health advocacy, business advocacy and development of models and
evidence to inform and support both types of advocacy.
- Analyze legislation pending before Congress and the state legislatures
that would affect child health and Nemours' business interests.
- Educate and inform key policymakers and opinion leaders about key
policies for which Nemours' is advocating.
Requirements:
- Extensive expertise of child health and development issues and ability
to apply this knowledge to advocate for effective policies and
strategies
- Master's degree and 5-10 years designing advocacy strategies and
developing legislative strategies
- Excellent analytical skills including experience analyzing legislative
policy and programmatic options
- Strong project management and communication skills
- Management experience preferred.
